The ‘Bird Box Challenge’ has led to Netflix viewers getting up to a variety of bizarre and decidedly un-chill things.

The challenge involves attempting various tasks while blindfolded, much like Sandra Bullock’s character Malorie in the horror which launched a thousand memes.

Although there has been some admittedly amusing results, some challengers have put themselves in very dangerous situations which are just not worth the footage.

Now one teenage girl has ended up crashing her car after driving with her hat pulled over her eyes. The 17-year-old had drifted into traffic in Salt Lake City in Utah, US but thankfully was uninjured.

Salt Lake City police officers have now warned others not to copy this perilous behaviour, tweeting:

Bird Box Challenge while driving…predictable result. This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway. Luckily no injuries.

Others have also taken to social media to express concern and outrage over the girl’s reckless actions.

One person tweeted:

There will be criminal charges, right? This is beyond a moving violation. At least reckless driving.

Another noted:

Sounds more like a ‘Bird Brain’ Challenge!

Netflix have previously urged people to be careful when attempting the Bird Box Challenge:

Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.

We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.

This girl was lucky nobody was seriously hurt this time. Hopefully she will think again before risking her life for the sake of a meme.

Bird Box is currently available to stream on Netflix.
